1. Accepting these terms
Close Couples is operated by Bizleads Limited, a company registered in the United Kingdom (company number 09408048), registered office 27 Old Gloucester Street, London, England, WC1N 3AX ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Close Couples.
2. Eligibility — you must be 18 or older
Close Couples is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, and you confirm you are when you sign up. You also confirm you can form a binding contract and aren't barred from using the app under applicable law.
3. What the service is
Close Couples is a private app for two people in a relationship to feel close — to share moods, send notes, answer a daily question, build a shared timeline of memories, and (for couples who are apart) see a reunion countdown, each other's local time, and an approximate distance. To be clear about what it isn't:
- It is not a real-time messenger. Notes are asynchronous keepsakes, not a chat service.
- It is not a dating or matchmaking service. It connects two people who already know each other; it never introduces strangers.
- It has no public or social feed. There's no audience inside the app — just the two of you.
- It is not a safety, medical, or relationship-counselling service, and isn't a substitute for professional advice or emergency services.
4. Your account
- Provide accurate information and keep your login credentials secure. You're responsible for activity under your account.
- One person, one account. Don't impersonate anyone or use someone else's identity.
- Tell us promptly (at support@closecouples.app) if you think your account has been compromised.
- You can delete your account at any time from within the app.
5. Pairing and unpairing
- A Close Couples space is strictly two people. You pair by inviting your partner, who accepts. You belong to one active couple at a time.
- Either partner can unpair at any time. When you do, your shared content is preserved and remains export-available to both of you for a retention window, after which it is deleted, as described in our Privacy Policy.
- Neither partner can unilaterally destroy or take away the other's copy of your shared memories. Deleting your own account doesn't delete your partner's copy of what you shared together. This is intentional.
- You're each responsible for your own conduct in the shared space. We are not responsible for disputes between partners, and we can't mediate your relationship.
6. Your content
You own what you create. The moods, notes, answers, photos, and memories you add are yours. To run the app, you grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, back up, process, and display that content solely to operate Close Couples and make your content available to you and your partner. We don't use your private content to advertise, train unrelated models, or for any purpose beyond running the service. This licence ends when your content is deleted, except for copies in routine backups that age out, and except for your partner's preserved copy of shared content as described above.
You're responsible for your content and confirm you have the right to share it — including that you have any necessary permission from people who appear in photos or recordings you upload. Don't upload content you don't have the rights to.
7. Acceptable use
Close Couples is a private space for two consenting adults, but a few rules still apply. You agree not to:
- use the app for anything unlawful, or to harass, threaten, abuse, or harm another person — including your partner;
- upload content that is illegal, or that sexually exploits or endangers anyone (we report child sexual abuse material to the authorities, always);
- infringe anyone's intellectual-property or privacy rights;
- attempt to breach security, scrape, reverse-engineer, disrupt, or overload the service, or access another couple's data;
- resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the app; or use it to build a competing product.
8. Close Couples Plus (subscriptions)
Some features are part of Close Couples Plus, a paid subscription. The core daily experience and the ability to pair stay free.
- One subscription covers both partners. When one of you subscribes, both of you get Plus.
- Free trial. New couples get a full-access trial starting when you pair, lasting 14 days. If you don't subscribe, your space gracefully moves to the free tier — your content is preserved; only access to certain Plus features is re-locked. Your content is never deleted because a trial ends.
- Auto-renewable subscription terms. Plus is offered as an auto-renewable subscription priced at approximately $4.99 per month or $29.99 per year (exact prices are shown in the app and may vary by region and over time). Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends, at the then-current price.
- Managing & cancelling. You manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings — not inside Close Couples. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Plus until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Refunds. Purchases are handled by Apple or Google and are subject to their refund policies. Any statutory rights you have (for example, EU/UK consumer cancellation rights) are unaffected. Where a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you buy a subscription, if the app store so provides.
9. Our intellectual property
The Close Couples app, name, logo, design, and content we provide are owned by us or our licensors and protected by law. We grant you a personal, limited, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for its intended purpose. We reserve all rights not expressly granted.
10. Third-party services
The app relies on third-party services (such as Apple, Google, and our hosting and subscription providers). Your use of those services may be subject to their own terms, and we're not responsible for them. Sign-in and payments are handled by Apple and Google under their terms.
11. Suspension and termination
You can stop using Close Couples and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms (for example, the acceptable-use rules) or where we're required to by law, generally with notice where practicable. If we terminate your account without cause, you're entitled to a pro-rata refund of any prepaid subscription as required by the app store or applicable law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (content licence for backups, IP, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, governing law) will survive.
12. Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, to the fullest extent permitted by law — including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that content will always be available or accurate. Close Couples is for personal enjoyment and connection; it is not a substitute for professional advice or emergency services. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law (including, for UK/EU consumers, your non-excludable statutory rights).
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or USD 50 — except where the law does not allow such a limit, and without limiting your non-excludable statutory rights.
14. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your misuse of the app, or your breach of these terms or of someone else's rights — to the extent permitted by law and not caused by us.
15. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and (unless your local consumer law gives you the right to bring a claim where you live) the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. Nothing here removes mandatory consumer protections available to you where you live. We'd always rather resolve things informally first — reach out at support@closecouples.app.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app changes. When we make material changes we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. If you keep using Close Couples after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms.
17. Additional terms for Apple App Store
If you download Close Couples from the Apple App Store, the following also applies. These terms are between you and us, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price (if any); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product-liability, legal/regulatory, or consumer-protection claims, or any third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual-property rights. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as "terrorist-supporting", and are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You must also comply with applicable third-party terms (for example, your wireless carrier's terms) when using the app.
